I think the only thig i would miss with the change is Visual Basic , which i use it for school projects.

I would recommend SuSE rather than FC3.. or for that matter any Debian based system.. maybe Ubuntu

FC3 is a great distro don't get me wrong.. I absolutely love it.. and the maturity of Redhat shows through.. but I feel for someone starting with Linux, SuSE is the best way to go for a desktop system...

Redhat tends to abstract away small details from you, which can cause confusion later in life... SuSE just really takes the cake as a desktop distribution..

Ubuntu rocks as well.. but I use KDE not Gnome..
