hi hope anyone can help me. im a little bit confuse of how to subnet(vlsm) this type scenario. hope anyone can show me a binary form for this. your answers are much appreciated.
given an ip address of 172.16.0.0/16
i know that the first network would be 172.16.0.0/23 convert to binary and that would be x.x.00000001.11111111. how do i subnet /23 to the 2nd network (/24). hope you can show the binary form.
3 networks
500 host - 1st network
200 host - 2nd network
100 host - 3rd network

Hello i am new to the forums and i have read the subnetting tutorial on this site and have gotten the hang of it except for the subnetting on class A and B.
If i have a ip 80.216.37.168 and the subnet 255.255.248.0 and the gateway 80.216.32.1
then i have a an A class ip adress. and that has a subnet of 255.0.0.0
and we have 255.255.248.0 that means that we have the A class divided in 256 parts and then in 32 other subnets (248) and then the last part is 0 witch means all 256 hosts in the same subnet.
So we have divided an A network into sevral C networks but with an A network ip.
Have i understod this right?

Hey I have a problem with subnetting Class A. I understand the general idea but I think I have a special case or something.
The IP address is 120.15.179.255 /18. I know the default mask is 255.0.0.0. I know the possible subnetworks that could be created are 1024 (2^10) and the hosts are 16,382 ((2^14)-2). Because 2 bits are borrowed from the third octet this means that the multiplier is 64 (2^6). The major network address is 120.64.0.0
I need to find the first seven subnetwork addresses and I found only the first three: 120.64.0.0; 120.128.0.0; 120.192.0.0. Because this is Class A address do I go to the second octet and continue with 120.1.0.0, 120.2.0.0, 120.3.0.0, 120.4.0.0, 120.5.0.0, 120.6.0.0, 120.7.0.0 or what exactly am I supposed to do?
Then I need to find the broadcast addresses and I found the first three: 120.15.125.255,; 120.15.191.255; 120.15.255.255 (even though not sure about the third one because last 2 octets turn out to be 1s). I do not know how to proceed with the other four broadcast addresses.
Then I need to answer the question "What does the address 120.15.179.255 /18 represent?" and I am not sure what exactly am I supposed to say. Please help, it is urgent
