ipcop web proxy setup

I have a P1 200Mhz MMX - 64MB RAM - 1GB HD running IPCop for the last months without any problems.

One of the pcs on my network belong's to my 13 year old son and I would like to log all the internet traffic from his pc.

I have enabled the proxy on IPCOP and left the default port to 800.
changed the pc to a proxy connrction with the IPCOP address and port but every site I try to browse replies with pagenot found. A quick look at the proxy logs of IPCOP I can see the urls I try to connect to.

I have also enabled transparent mode whic as such was worst, because I lost the logs.

Can someone pls help, what is wrong with my conf??
Is it the pc .... do I need a larger hard disk or more RAM to run a proxy server.

Can you confirm that the IPCOP has been the default gateway for your network, and that other PCs can access the Web through it as long as the Proxy is not enabled in TRANSPARENT mode?

Your spec is sufficient to run IPCOP comfortably.

yes thats exactly - the windows client pcs have the IPCOP pc setup as the default gateway and my ISP DNS server in the DNS preferred fields.

All of the networked PCs can access the Internet with this setup.

You should be able to enable the Proxy on IPCOP and set it to work in TRANSPARENT mode without having to enter any proxy settings on the clients.

Do the other PCs work with the Proxy enabled (and in TRANSPARENT mode)?

Also, have you made any changes to your /var/ipcop/proxy/acl file?

Do you have any add-ons installed?

Before you made the changes, did your son's PC access the internet OK?

Does the IPCOP serve as the DHCP server for your LAN or are the IPs statically assigned?

Do the other PCs work with the Proxy enabled (and in TRANSPARENT mode)?

No none of the PCs work with the Proxy enabled (in both transparent modes on or off)
After a couple of minutes waiting this is what I get when the Proxy is enabled on the client PC

If I remove the Proxy settings, then I can browse normally.

No.

Yes, any PC can access the internet using IPCop as my main Firewall.

I do not wish to use DHCP server, all the IPs are static 192.168.1.XXX.

This points to a problem with the DNS settings on your IPCOP. You mentioned in an earlier post that you manually entered your ISP DNS server settings in the DNS preferred fields on the client machines. That's probably why you didn't notice this until you tried to use the IPCOP as a proxy server.

You can change the DNS settings on your IPCOP by editing the file: [code:1]/var/ipcop/ethernet/settings[/code:1]
or more easily by logging in at your IPCOP's console and running "setup" and selecting the "Networking/DNS and Gateway Settings" option.
