Troubleshooting AS2511-RJ Access Router

What exactly does that do?

Alias exec auxdown clear line 97

You mean the 2621 terminal server, right? Or is it a 2821? Because if its a 2821 ...holy moly!!

I was thinking about using the AUI Ethernet for telnet instead of the AUX port. Then I wouldn't have to worry about the clear commands???

I'll wait and see what your response is to skepticals on what exactly the commands do.

Sorry to make you guys wait. Anyhow yes its over kill but my client only uses the latest and greatest straight from Cisco. I think they chose to use the 2821 model largely for the two Gig Ethernet ports.

To answer the question about the “Alias” commands. When you have to type out long command strings constantly. You can make short cuts. I had to figure out how to give the same client mentioned above, access out of two 3845’s and connect to a access point and wireless controller. We didn’t install a any kind of terminal server. To make a long story short if you use the following config…

Alias exec auxup telnet 127.0.0.11 2097
Alias exec auxdown clear line 97

Line Aux 0
Modem InOut
Transport preferred all
Transport input all
Transport output all

You can use “Auxup” to console out to anything attached to it with out having to type “127.0.0.11 2097”. Then “Auxdown” to clear the line.

Keep in mind you can do a lot more than that by using this command. Do a google search for the command and you’ll find some interesting stuff.

You can never rip on over kill, because it never hurt anybody And that is my kind of client, one who wants to go with the latest and greatest. This is especially true when it comes to those high end series that Cisco carries.

Alright so I am back to this thread, I thought I had closed this issue out but I was dead wrong. I was about to start working on a Frame Relay lab when to my surprise I couldn't access any of my devices, except 2 out of the 8. I had just logged in to every device the night before, and no changes have been made.

I power cycled the AS2511 router and totally forgot to run a copy running-config startup-config before doing the reboot. doh! No big deal, I just reconfigured the router as it was before which would also be a good test. The first two devices I added would not connect. I receive the following:

Trying 1700_1 (192.168.1.1, 2006)...
% Connection refused by remote host

Do you think I have a bad AS2511 or one that might be going bad? I mean, how can it be working on day and the next it stops? This will be very upsetting if the device is going bad and I just wasted my money.

Any thoughts???

I got into a similar situation. I wasn’t sure if it was a hardware failure or not. Truly you will never fully know unless you can play with another 2511 or have someone with the same router load it on theirs. Also have you tried different cords coming out of the octal cable? I found on one of mine that cable “1” can receive fine, but can’t transmit. Does anyone have access to a 2511?
