cant install updates!!

many thanks chaps/chapesses!!..some success!!renamed the edb.log(old) and now I have installed the xp security updates(including the wonderful IE7)..BUT not the excel/word/outlook 2003 updates..very strange,,bring back the spectrum

Ricardo can u please tell me as to what kind of error messages you are getting while trying to install other updates. We can also check the event viewer to get more information.

all the error messages are 0x80070643 ,except the .net framework updates which are 0x643..cheers

Try this and let us know if it works,

Step 1: Disable Local Installation Source and then check for updates

1. Download the Local Installation Source Tool from:

2. Extract LisTool.exe and LisTool.chm to some location.
3. Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL.exe) and choose the Delete and Disable LIS option.
Click next. Select all the check boxes in the subsequent dialog. Then proceed to
Finish.
=> Try installing updates

Step 2:
========
Manually download the update to the local hard disk. And then try to install the
update from the hard disk.

thanks to all you guys for your suggestions...I still have a problem..listen to this--first my pc failed to recognise my e drive,,noticed when my son couldn't copy files into i-tunes...tried system restore,but didnt get any ack.it had restored to an earlier time ..had to re-install mcafee..then low and behold all the updates installed..yipee..BUt now I cant open any files except jpeg's,cant access outlook 2003..cant restore back before the problem..but I can use the internet( oh god thank you)...is this a re-install xp job? cheers rick

Since this is now a new issue, i would start a new thread and give more details, i.e. what happens when you try to open outlook, jpegs, etc...
