Ipcop configuring

Hey Guys,

I recently installed ipcop on a single pc. I have broadband connection i want to protect using the software. Ok first things first. My ip address is not static. The pc with the ipcop has two nic cards. I assigned the configuration type as green + red. I guess green = go and red is the nic port that checks the packets. im also asked during setup to assign the green nic a ip address. so i make on up. I make then make a host name and domain name and the root and admin passwords. then the system rebuits, a linux screen comes up and then i enter the root password. It goes through, and tells me "No mail" then takes me to a command prompt. From here on im stuck.

Does anyone know what i should be doing.

Sorry for the quiet welcome given by IPCOP, though ...

If during the installation, you properly selected the DHCP option for your REDinterface (assuming your IPCOP is connected directly to a modem and not a router) and you also activated the DHCP server on the GREEN interface for your internal network, you should be ready to go. All you need to do is to hook up a machine to a hub/switch connected to the Green interface of your IPCOP and it should be able to access the internet.

The easiest method of administering your IPCOP is by using its web interface which can be accessed via
[code:1]https://ipcopgreenip:445[/code:1]
where ipcopgreenip is the IP address of your IPCOP's GREEN NIC.

You can configure quite a lot of things using the web interface but you will need a user/password combination to access it. The user name is "admin" and you will have selected the password during the installation process. It is not the same as your root password although you may have chosen the same value in which case you need to stand in the corner for 10 mins for being naughty.

The other method is by adding IPTABLES rules to your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file. You can use this file to restrict internet access based on IP address amongst other things

Hey Guys

I followed the steps. i set the configuration to Green + Red. The Red nic card is connected directly to my cable modem and the nic card labled green i connected to a linksys switch, which connects my computer and xbox. Now i the setup asked me to give the green nic a ip address so i made one up, and hit ok. Then i probed for the second nic card and i set it to dhcp. Thats the parts were i get confused. Do i type in the dns servers that my isp provides along with the dns server. Do will the red nic card recieve the ip address and sub net mask automatically.

If your Red NIC is set to DHCP, it will receive both its IP address and your ISP's DNS server addresses automatically.

Hey Dalight,

I directluy connected the red nic to my cable modem, i even reset the modem to recieve a ip address, i believe the second nic isn't working properly. Its not send out ip address to my pc or other computer.

Right now im trying to use gate protect server firewall. maybe i'll have more luck.
