Lab setups


I’m going to take the advice of Zippy and start another topic.. Home Labs.

Currently I am building a lab with equipment that I’ve been collecting for the past few years.

2912XL
2950
3560
3524XL
3750 – Core switch, first 12 ports are the home network.
Three 3508’s with 8x 1000meg GBIC’s
2611
Two 2621 – one of which is my terminal server
3640
Two 2524
Two 2514
Two 7961 and a 7962
Also a 5513 with 240 10/100 ports – Not being implemented.. Will trade…

I will have a quite a few links running on different media like ISDN, T-1, serial, and 56k between the routers, then with different links out to the switches. All of this will give me a few different labs in one. Routing, Switching, VLAN, and a hopeful VOIP.

Zippy, you asked about the electrical. Well I think it’s only two 10amp breakers right now. My computer and it’s three monitors, the Verizon Fios router, and the 3750 on one circuit, and the rest of the stack on the other. But I live in an old house in Levittown, PA. Where the electrical wiring isn’t the best. I have been planning for a while to start to upgrade the panel and start rewiring the house, the room with the lab being the starting point(closest to the panel)..

I’m doing all of this with out any Cisco certs. Just nine years of on the job experience and CCNA/CCNP classes. I’m hoping by the end of the year I’ll have the CCNA.

So I posted mine, what does everyone else’s lab look like?

1 - Cisco 3560 PoE 24port switch
1 - Cisco 2950 24port switch
1 - Cisco 2950 24port switch (on order; for prod. network)
1 - Cisco 2900XL 24port switch
1 - Cisco AS2511RJ Access Router
1 - Cisco 2522 Frame Relay
1 - Cisco PIX501
1 - Fortinet60 Firewall
2 - Netgear 8port switches

Main network running 20Mbps(down)/2Mbps(up) - Cable
Test network running 6Mbps(down)/768Mbps(up) - DSL

I have to wait for a bit to add the PIX into my lab. That and Wireless AP's... Also like you 20 down 5 up...

This thread should really be called Home DATACENTER setup! Eight routers and eight switches!!! Are you racking them or just stacking them? I should be ashamed posting my lab specs here...but I'll do it any way to keep this interesting thread alive!

I have:
1 - Cisco 1721 router
1 - Cisco 2612 router
1 - Cisco 2950 switch

Hopefully by the end of Oct I'll have a firewall and switch added to the lab.

No Cisco lab is ever to small! Come on people, don't be shy we know your hiding your labs!!

Let's explode this thread!!! No networking site would be complete without its users labs!!

I never thought of my setup as a data center.. I can see why. Well, I just picked up two more switches and a PIX from a office I just converted over.

To add:
PIX 506 (Need a power supply)
2950 - 48 port
2960 - 24 port

The bulk ok it all is racked. My desk sits in a corner with enough space behind it to fit a 45ru 19 inch rack, the only devices not in the rack is the 2500 routers and the 3640. Once I get it all cabled together I'll take some pictures and post them.

I also agree no lab is ever small. The only reason why my lab has doubled this year is because of some office conversion projects that my customer was going to trash the equipment.
