Thumbnail Images in Windows XP was created by TheBishop
Hi everyone, just a little question from TheBishop:
While I was away on site my offspring managed to destroy Windows XP on my machine at home to the point where I had to reformat the system drive and reinstall XP from scratch   .
Fortunately it is now working again ok . Even more fortunately I had already moved all the My Documents folders to a different drive and so was able to retain all the personal data . However the thumbnail preview for graphics held under the My Documents folders now won't work, even though it's turned on. It used to work before. I've a feeling it could be due to permissions as I had to do a bit of messing around to give Full Control to the owners of each subfolder. Has anyone seen this before or got any clues?

Have you tried erasing the hidden file that holds the thumbnail data for each folder? I thing it is called something.db. It must be regenerated on the first refresh then.

It's thumbs.db
I'll try erasing it tonight and let you know

That resolves the problem. If you delete thumbs.db then the system recreates it and the thumbnail images all start working again.
Many thanks for your help!

You gotta love Microsoft...
Poke out the eyes to get it to start seeing again.....
Pity the whole OS doesn't 'regenerate' like this.. would save a lot of tech support people a lot of time everytime Joe User decided to clean up all those 'old dlls' in the system32 directory.
