One of my favorites is Helix. Is based off Knoppix and has great forensic and security tools. Awesome for resetting root or SAM dB passwords... Also allows many boot options including both the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. You can find it here:

People make fun of me because of my collection of Live CD's.. I just keep collecting them. If you want a few of my favourites:

Knoppix-STD
Local Area Security
Helix
F.I.R.E.
Trinux
Mepis
SuSE Live Eval
PHLAK

Of course Knoppix takes the cake when you want to just have your whole desktop in a bag.

For those who are interested, I'm currently working on my own live CD, which will contain security tools and a few other things that I like to have with me.

Cheers

hi y'all

just want to know if it is possible to install knoppix on a harddrive to be the base operating system. if so how can it be done?..

by the way, i've downloaded some distros (red hat 9, fedora 2, debian) and tried to install them all using vmware. i wanted to have a GUI for these distro but unfortunately, i guess, they do not support built in video adapters huh...oh well..

hiz jhun,

Linux supports everything, especially something so important! Besides under vmware you don't have your normal vga, but a (virtual) "typical svga" one. So give it a second try ;)
