Let's start by asking what are you doing with the distro? Are we just talking about the looks and feel? Support? Drivers? And once again back to look and feel? Lets face it, most people install a Linux distro for the look and feel, whether that be closer to a Windows look like Windows X or a BSD feel.
I've ran Debian in a work production environment because of the support.
I've ran SUSE in another work test environment for the SAN feature, which no other distro offers currently.
I've ran Ubuntu for the add-ons such as Beryl Manager, which now is offered for more distro's.
So, I don't think there is a right or wrong distro, its just a matter of what your installing Linux for.
Cheers,
ZiPPy

Well this is an old thread (no thread is old on this site) but em i think i should add something.
You knw over time i always preferred ubuntu well 2weeks back stumbled upon OpenSuse (Server Edition). It's great. I mean too gr8. If someone ask me to choose between SUSE and Ubuntu, before i will have chosen Ubuntu well looking at the config options and em the network config interface, etc i will choose and re - choose SUSE.
Sose i will fall on SUSE.
