There is also an issue with WIndows XP, removable media, and Drive Letters.
WXP auto assigns the first availavble drive letter to new removable media. But if you map a drive to a server say as E: and you then insert a USB, at times the OS will try and give the USb the E: drive assignation.
You can confirm if this is the problem by going to My computer/Manage/Disk Management.
If a drive letter and teh physical media seem confused then this is the cause of your problem. You wil need to then reassign the drive letter. ALso it would be recommended to map drives using letters towards the end of the alphabet
