I was surprised(or simply an ignorant to this matter) to find out that when i transfered the scsi disk of our database server(compaq) due to power failure to another server(acer), all its content were lost.It can read the disk but the data is gone.

Is this really the design of all servers or just because they're of diiferent make?

Was the disk part of an array or mirror, or was it completely stand-alone?

Aha. The mirror would be configured within the disk controller on the server, so unless you moved the disk to another server with an identical disk controller in it and also copied over the controller config from the old server's controller then yes you would lose the data
