Access denied XP and win98 was created by bker
Since installing SP2 for XP (home and pro) non of my windows 98 systems (15) can access any XP systems (5) and vice a versa.
The Workgroup is correct, Static IP’s are used throughout and I have no problem with the hardware set up as PING responds on all the systems.
Any help appreciated

hi,
i believe that the SP2 for Winxp enables the built firewall of XP on. it is here that may be causing your problem. try to cinfigure it in such a way that your 98 boxes would be able to communicate with your XPs.

How are you trying to access them ? Through file sharing ?
Most likely Jhun is right, its that *cough* excuse for a *cough* firewall..

thanks, forgot to mention all the Firewalls have been disabled, and I can only guess that it is a Security Permission issue...

your a funny guy sahirh...
anyway can you bker provide us more with details on how should they work?. you see as far as i know prior to your installation of SP2, it is quite hard to turn off the firewall of XP as it prevents you to disable it totally.

It is common in a workgroup environment for user's to have no password for their account. This can cause authentication problems between XP and 98 machines. Be sure that every user account has a password set.
