Supernet routing

i realise it would cause too much traffic to be practical, but in theory wouldn't every node with 192.168.*.* designated to its ip address receive the packet?

Yes, But thats only if all 192.168.*.* was really (physically) located after that interface that your routing to. As you know, The 192.168.0.0/16 route will simply tell all packets destined to 192.168.*.* to pass through a single interface. If you have say a third subnet 192.168.128.0/20 that is located elsewhere (behind a different interface) then obviously traffic to that one will NOT reach it.

I added nothing new. The 2 guys explanation is perfect :)

Wouldn't the other routers take care of that provided the network was fully converged? :?:

sorry i just realised what you mean. (its late, lol)
But by telling a router that all packets destined to 192.168.*.* go out that interface you are technically telling the router that the whole 192.168 network is in that direction. it would be impractical to tell it to basically throw the packets in that direction and something else will sort them out if you have a subnet of that network locally.
