i tried the software, its quite good, not as heavy duty as OPNET but still it has its uses. and not everyone can afford the licenses of OPNET. thanks

Why are you using packet tracer? There is a MUCH more fully featured application available called BOSON simulator. Download it via bit torrent and have access to a wide range of Cisco equipment and most configuration commands supported. Throw packet tracer in the garbage.

jajaj of course packet tracer sucks is you are an expert, but if you are a newby and learning basic routing packet tracer is an easy tool, and a must for the new ones.
bosson is great, but at a cost, you need license.

Hi! How are you doing? I hope that you are having a nice weekend.
I was wondering if you knew what version of Packet Tracer is included with the CCNA 3 and 4 book.
Also is there a beta version coming out since v3.2 only supports Rip v.1 and RIP v.2.

Replied by stteng on topic How do you use Boson NetSim CCP Final Beta successfully
I have a simple question. Why won't my patched Boson simulator work for a RIP v.1 network.
I have unique networks for each network but I can't even get my Host A to ping to Host B successfully. Actually I can't get my local router to ping successfully my remote host.
My setup is the following:
Host A<->RouterA's E0 port<-> Router A<-> RouterA's S0 port (DCE)<->Router B's S0 (DTE)<-> Router B<->RouterB's E0 port<->Host B
Host A's IP Address: 172.16.0.10/16
Host A's Default Gateway: 172.16.0.1
RouterA's E0 IP address: 172.16.0.1/16
RouterA's S0 IP address: 172.17.0.1/16 (DCE)
RouterB's E0 IP address: 172.18.0.1/16
RouterB's S0 IP address: 172.18.0.1/16
HostB's IP address: 172.18.0.10/16
Host B's Default Gateway: 172.18.0.1
Thanks in advance
