Due to intense prodding I have begun writing this as the next tutorial. For those interested, a basics tutorial is almost finished with proof-reading and should be up by next week.
The SSH one will be fun.
Btw, why would you want to port forward telnet over SSH ...

I am trying to provide SSH access to a cisco study lab. I am looking at the options. A new terminal server with SSH access built in would be expensive for study purposes and the upgrade to new future versions of SSH in the future might be restrictive. I was thinking of something like an ipcop /smoothwall gateway to provide SSH access and using using an older terminal server (pre-SSH)?

Built-in to a Linux box sounds like a good way to go.

SSH access using IPCOP is very economical as well as functional. Simply setup the IPCOP and enable TCP forwarding using the GUI. Tunnels can then be setup to machines behind the IPCOP carrying protocols such as RDP, VNC, POP3, etc. I can provide details depending on your needs.
