SSH access was created by christiaan
Hi
I am trying to provide SSH access to a study lab. I looking at the options. Would it be better to buy a new terminal server with SSH access built in or provide SSH access with a linux box if using an older terminal server (pre-SSH)?

This is an excellent question. I haven't done this but I have a friend who has and he swears by it. He uses a linux box for the server end. He also uses SSH to tunnel other traffic so, for example, he connects up his SSH session then runs Windows XP Remote Desktop over it with port forwarding on the other side to direct it to his server. I'm not sure how all this works, so if anyone knows, post away!

Built-in to a Linux box sounds like a good way to go.
Bishop -- SSH is awesome, local port forwarding, remote port forwarding.. tunneling X sessions, SFTP, SCP, good encryption, PKI authentication... you name it !
I gotta say, it is the most evolved protocol on the planet -- couldn't live without it, wouldn't live without it.
Look out for an SSH tutorial soon.

I would be particulary interested in a tutorial in SSH port forwarding telnet because this type of tutorial is pretty thin googling. In particular dynamic proxying looks like it might be useful but cannot make head nor tail of the tutorial on putty website. Is it the same as step 7 of the cyberknights how to?

An SSh tutorial using Ipcop or smoothie as the firewall would be interesting.
