Hi,
I've seen this behaviour before from the operator side. It seems to me that if the connection is dropping anf keep alive doesn't help the fault may be with the network end...i.e the DSLAM.
There have been a few vendors that have experianced software bugs that essentiall freeze the customer port periodically. Believe it or not htis is often down to poor interoperability testing between the DSLAM and Modem. Due to the high number of modems available most vendors fine it far too expensive to test every brand of modem. Most will test a handful (10 - 15) that use the 3 most common chipsets, and then recommend these modems to the ISPs.
The ISPs then use the cheapets whether or not they have been tested...and the problems begin. I'm willing to bet that if a new modem / router doesn't fix this then it will go away within the next 3 months (after a software upgrade to the DSLAM).
