Or one (hopefully) final thing, the media converters could need to be power cycled, I've been less than impressed with some models reliability in the past.

I agree with jwj, media convertors don't have a great reputation when it comes to reliability.

Try power cycling them both, or replacing them if you have a spare.

thanks to all that reply,

i have tried the ways as suggested above but i still have the same problem though... :D

well anyway, i would look into this more.
by the way, is it possible that a bad nic may cause network latency such as this one?
to give you a cleared picture, latency is felt dominantly whenever transfering or copying of files. the media converters are connected via gigabit ethernet

many thanks

Duplex mismatch often shows up only under load. Have you checked the port speed and duplex mode on both the copper port of the media converters and the switch port they are plugged into?
I notice going back through the topic that several people have mentioned checking the error counters on the ports your media converters are plugged in to. Have you done this? Try resetting the counters then running the network for a day and let us know what they record.

thanks bishop,

yup i've checked the counters and i found alot of RX errors. i would be contacting our provider to test the fiber itself.
i'll update you all what we find out. again many thanks.

Ah, progress is being made.
What about the duplex mode and speed on the ports? Did you check those?
