the ports to which the media converters are connected to are gigabit ethernet capable and the duplex mode and speed are just fine.
could it be possible that one of the switches may be faulty? as one port on the swtich to which one end of the fiber link reports alot of RX errors. the other switch is just a passive switch and i cannot really tell via its counter although i have alredy power cycled it together wit the rest of the equipment including the media converters.

You could check for a faulty port by elimination if you have a spare port you could use instead. Swap over and watch the counters to see what happens

hi all,

just an update...i've managed to pinpoint the problem, and they are non other than the media converters.

what we did was by method of isolation. i had our provider bring a couple of working media converters for testing. and when they were installed, all was working fine. now we did the test via PC to PC connection were no switch was involved. then to rule out that a another device within the network might be causing the latency, we added the media converters into our network and perform additional tests which resulted in a very acceptable performance.

again many thanks for the help everyone.
