Dude i know what you mean about getting the computer to see the external drive. I have an external memorex cdrom drive that i purchased, i needed it to install windows on my laptop because the drive on my laptop is fried. The silly computer would detect my externa driv, boot the 2000 setup then tell me cdrom not seen. AWWW! What a brain buster. So i just installed mandrake 10 and called it a day. its seemed to make my laptop see the external. Thanks Mandrake for being their!

I'll take my usb drive with me to the school's lab next time I go, it seems like some motherboards act diffrently when booting. When I usb boot on this computer, windows says the hdd is on an IDE controler.
