my network place and MMC was created by thompsg
I have a network at home. Running w2k3 server with an XP workstation.
I can go on the server and ping my workstation by netbios name (clarke) and by the FQDN (clarke.grahamthompson.com).
But here is the kicker.. I can't connect to my workstation using MMC remotly.. even tho I try.... i click other computer, browse, type c then check names.. it resolves to Clarke. As soon as I click OK it says the network path cannot be found and then cacks out...
ALso I go into my network places and my workstaton is not there either..
What gives??
Please help
::Edited to change network neighbourhood to my network places

1. Are you using Active Directory?
2. If so, is your workstation a member computer?
3. Is %domain name%\domain admins in the local administrators group on your XP workstation?

Okay sorry for taking so long to update here is the scoop.. The computer is joined to the domain. Yes I'm using AD and i do have a computer account in the directory. I've also added my domain admin account to the local admin group. I can log onto the workstation as a domain user. I can ping the workstaiton from the server. If I go through MMC and add a computer to observe through the event viewer.. It will resolve the computer name when I click check names but then when it goes to actually connect to the other computer it says network cannot be found.
I'm missing something but I'm not sure what it is....

Hey guys... I'm surprised someone here didn't catch this.. Infact I'm very surprised at myself for letting it go this long.. I'm almost embarrassed.. Anyway for what its worth I didn't define my site within sites and services.
This is the answer to my problems I believe.. if its not I'll let you know.. Now my only problem is friggin subnets and subnet masks.. I'm going to have to refresh myself.. usually the mask and subnet is provided to me at work...
Bounce...
