You might want to check msconfig to see what other programs are running when windows starts up. One of my friends had the same problem and it turned out that it was a firewall that he was using. Disable all unnecessary programs and try it. Also check for any spywares or any virus. GL

What services did you disable? I know I once disabled 'Event Log' service, and my computer took awhile to load.
I’m assuming that your computer boots to the GUI at the same speed, just logging on takes all the time?

18 processes is not bad at all, as neon said it could be that you stopped a service that many other programs like to use -- like event log..
I didn't know it was possible to stop event log.. it allows you to disable it, but it ultimately seems to keep coming back
Cheers,
