thanks for the reply everyone,
i suggested to the customer to do a clean install,but he was having no of it he had some software package on the pc he could not get again nor did i have, it u know how it is!
types of viruses i came across were
klez
netsky
blaster
and loads more i cant remember,but thanks to a combination of stinger and nav i seemed to of got rid of them all,
and to answer jacks question it was the first thing i turn off

Was the printer working earlier or has it never worked (in which case call the HP people).
Maybe you should consider a system restore...
