There is no direct connection, I think it's likely that your internet browser and/or any other background programs you have that are using the internet are sapping your system resources so that your word runs more slowly. This would be particularly likely if you have an older system with a less than mighty processor or if you don't have a lot of RAM. It might be worth running a spyware and virus check to make sure there is nothing on your system that should not be there.
To see if your resources are being hit, open the Windows Task Manager and look on the Performance tab. Look at the memory and CPU graphs for high utilization
