End Program - explorer.exe

Hi there

I'm trying to apply read/write permissions to a folder but after when I've finished selecting read or write attributes and click apply - it just freezes with the egg timer - I then click the x button to close it and I get the message "End Program - explorer.exe this program is not responding".

Please help.

how big is the folder?
this is NTFS permissions not share permissions, correct?
this is on what machine?
is the folder shared?
try it in safe mode.

Generally, if the folder is pretty large (several gigs or even several hundred MBs), it'll take some time for the permissions changes to replicate to the child objects (since by default, child objects inherit permissions from the parent objects). The wait time involved in this can be interpreted as "freezing," in which case clicking the X will show signs of it not responding. Give it some time and you'll be fine.
