Does anyone know a good way of installing/configuring SNMP on a group of Windows XP machines?
It looks like the GPO method is limited.
Anyone have any ideas?

Depends how many machines. If it is for a new installation I'd do one, archive it then use a goldbuild technique. Or you could build a scripted automated installation and build them that way.
I think though you might have existing machines. Since the settings will all be registry based why not try one of those products that snapshot the registry before and after a change and show you what got modified? You could then use regedit to save the changed key(s) as .reg file(s) which you could then deploy on each machine (either manually or automatically using GPO or some other method) to reproduce the changes

The reason I was going to install SNMP on all the machines was I thought I could track bandwidth usage this way. Is this correct?
Yes, bishop...I have existing machines.

Yes you can however its simpler if the switch supports SNMP and you can track it per port !

Good point smurf. I have Cisco 2950's and higher. I would assume that they do.
I guess the only issue is keeping an up-to-date port to computer mapping.
Would there be any other reason to install SNMP on the workstations?
