Windows Activation

Windows Activation was created by S0lo
I have this machine in one of our labs. I had to reformat, So I used our ready made Norton Ghost image. imagiing and every thing worked fine, until I reached the login screen, When I login, the windows activation dialog appears and asks to activate windows online. I usually do this successfully with the same image and PC model. But this time it didn't work, it says it couldn't connect the to site. I'm sure the IP configuration is OK, I'm able to ping the machine (from the subnet and from outside)

The problem is now windows will not let me in, When I click "remind me latter" it will go back to the login screen. Any ideas ?

hey Solo, wat operating system do u have, u made reference to windows i believe windows we have (Win 95, win98, win2000, win2003 server, win me, winxp, winxp Sp1, winxp Sp2. Win Vista,... etc (earlier versions b4 win95) ).

but for quick answer.... - if u using win xp (any of the service packs) did it ask for a key, cos i believe part of the registration will require a key... try putting the one under any laptop with winxp preinstalled on it.. be it a HP or toshiba or... etc.... or try this "KEY REMOVED BY SMURF" it should work.. and if its vista then i suggest when u reply this post then... may be we get a solution for u...

hope i have helped u in my little way....

Yo,

Since the IP configuration is good, and you proved that the computer can communicate with outside resources, I'd say that an error related to not being able to connect to the site to activate could also be Microsoft's "nice and fancy" way of saying that the image isn't genuine. Have you recently changed hardware on the machine? If the machine has not been altered, it can communicate with the Outside, the image has worked before, and the problem persists, then I'd say reimage it again and see what happens, might have been a glitch during the imaging.

Hope my assistance helps

I would have to agree, if communication is ok on this machine then its more likely not a genuine key that has been used. Contact Microsoft regarding the key or contact your reseller.

Here is a site that talks about it more

It's a WinXP, I used the same KEY writen on the machine it self. Isn't that supposed to be genuine ?

Any way, now, I found a patch for the winlogon service that disables windows activation. Fortunatly safe mode logs in, I ran it in safe mode, and puala, it works 8)

I'm not sure about the legal thing here but at least it works until I find out why it didn't.

Thanks guys for all the help.
