Thank you because in this case im correct. Microsoft and Maxtor told me on XP you can push 200 GB but thats about the system max b4 you need to get a special boot program to bypass the one working with microsoft or so I'm told. You may get lucky if your using another brand of HDD and not need it, some HDD's come pre-installed with it to work with this XP problem.

mine has to go through the bios boot program then into a special HDD boot program to force windows to accept the drive, and then XP boots.

I'm convinced that this is a Hard Drive/BIOS issue and nothing to do with Windows XP. If you look on Microsoft's knowledge base it does indeed talk about Using a manufactures boot manager in order to see the full size of some hard drives but this is put down to limitations in the BIOS from seeing the full amount of hard drive.

It may even just be a limit on the SYSTEM Partition i suppose but i have never heard of such a thing ?

I have a 320Gig hard drive however i am running vista and i cannot be bothered reloading XP on to test it.

I think i will go with the Windows XP literature and put it down to a BIOS/Hard Drive issue.

Cheers

Well talking with their tech depts. and my father a 30 year telecommunications and Voip specialist plus CCIE and ex software engineer who say its XP ill go with them. Seeing as Windows in known for bragging about things that don't actually work.

Trust me it's not my bios my bios is fully equipped to handle upto and including 1 terabyte of HDD space.

My bios is also capable of booting other OS's with this HDD. The only platform it has a problem with is XP.

I put win 98 on their no problem, vista no problem, linux no problem.

then

XP Problem!

I hate vista by the way so i use XP since at the moment vistas is very prone to hackers having nearly no security what so ever according to articles I've read their security platforms have failed every attempt to block both worms/viruses and hackers

Well been doing more research and the issues you have experienced does seem to be odd. Your BIOS and Hard Drive should be fine but also Windows XP doesn't have this limit either. Very odd, i wonder if anyone else has had this type of issue ?

Here is the article i have been reading which was quite interesting.

Righty, i'm off to read mi book (long time since i have read a book that wasn't linked to any exams, lol)

Take it easy
