Ping Question was created by GTM
I have a question that i find a bit confusing i would like one of you guys to clear it up for me.I have noticed sometimes when pinging a host on the internet to check connectivity a message appears stating that 4 packets sent and 4 recieved the confusing bit is that it also states "destination host unreachable" i was wondering how this is possible anyone who could shed some light on this would be appreciated.Thanks.

try instead of pinging to a tracert or pathping and see what you get.

No screen shots sorry.I work in a help desk role so i dont actually see the screen myself but it has happened a few times also a colleague has had the same.Tracert does not get past the router.Could it be a print error with the ping results by that i mean it stats packets sent 4 recieved 4 when in actual fact its sent 4 and recieved none.

So is this happening internally ? I am intregued now......
The only thing i can think is that some of the ICMP responses have been blocked along the route. Is it a router/firewall that you are pinging or an actual host ?
