Wow! If you want a detailed analysis of whats going on with Microsoft, you'll have to do some major reading and research. I don't think an in-depth analysis will "fit" in a forum.
If you want to get an idea of Microsoft's business strategy, watch the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley, then do some research in the legal problems that Microsoft has had since its rise. That should give you an idea of how Microsoft does business.
Other good resources for IT (including Microsoft) news are:
www.infoworld.com and www.eweek.com . Lately, the majority of news in those sites are related to Vista and and the Microsoft-Novell deal.
A general idea of what I've read: according to surveys, most IT professionals will implement Vista and Office 2007 in a year or two. Most of the critisim I've heard have been negative.

I've been running Vista now since just after Christmas and i love it. Like any new operating system it takes a little getting used to but i personally think its much better then XP. I have not had it crash yet either which is a good point.
The only issue i have had was with Product Validation which i beleive a lot of people have had issues with, after a little googling though i found the answer and all ok now.
