sound icon on Win 2000 tray was created by saidfrh
Hi,
can someone suggest how to activate/install the sound/speaker icon next to the clock icon in Win 2000. The tray next to the clock can not expand-nothing to expand to? I am also not able to listen to music CDs.
When I browse to Entertainment>Volume Control, I get the following message: "There are no active mixer devices available. You may install mixer devices from the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard in the Control Panel." I do not see a selection to install mixer devices in the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard in the Control Panel.
Can some one suggest how to activate sound on this PC? The sound card is on the motherboard.
Thanks.

This is probably because the sound card driver has not been installed. Go to Device Manager and see if there are any yellow question marks. If there are no yellow question marks, it may be that the on-board audio has been disabled in the BIOS. If that is the case, you will need to enable it.
If you're having problems getting a driver for your sound card, post your motherboard details.

Hi,
The Multimedia Audio Controller has a yellow question mark. I downloaded what I believe is the driver from Compaq's site. I chose to "Run" the driver. Was I supposed to "Save" the driver? How do I locate the details for the motherboard?
Thanks.

Thank you. I was able to successfully download the drivers and I now have sound.
