recovering files was created by sose
A cousin told me that I can recover my files from a hard disk after reformating it with the help om f a software. Anyone knows any thing about this.

Yup its true providing you have not already started to overwrite the sectors on the hard drive that was holding the original data.

There are loads of software packages out there to do this

Smurf is right about only being able to recover data from sectors that have not been overwritten. You will however find from a google search that a lot of the results require you to pay and you may find them to be a bit "hit and miss".

Two Live CDs with a number of free data recovery utilities are Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and Helix Live CD

Hiren Boot Cd is also very good.

It certainly has an impressive list of tools. A lot of the tools however appear to be proprietary software which brings it legality into doubt. I've also come across reports of trojans being found in some of the downloads. I don't personally think these were intentionally placed there by the compiler, but it goes with the territory ...
