XP hogs disk space was created by Ranger24
Hi,
For the first time in years I installed XP Pro to a desktop. I installed to the first partition on the first disk....waited what seems like hours..answered many questions and finally windows (3 hrs later) was working.
Checking the system out I noticed that I only had 3 GB of a 10 Gb partition free! Now I know it has been a while but I couldn't believe that XP had doubled in size.
A quick manual check of all folders confirmed that only 2.5 gb of files were installed.
So why does explorer seem convinced that my partion only has 3 Gb free?
Not using windows muc (prefer linux) I really don't know where to begin!
Help

Hmmm, interesting.
If you install TreeSize, where does it show that all the space is being taken up ?

Hi All,
Solved! booting in to linux allowed me to use konqueror to view the file sizes graphically. This showed that 1.5GB was being taken by the page file (should have guessed as I have a 1 GB RAM and page file is 1.5 x available ram by default).
And another 1.5GB used for system restore points.
So restore points are off, and the pagefile reduced.
And just to satisfy arani's interest: Primary partition is ntfs.

Cheers Ranger, i did think about the PAge File but with the difference being 4.5Mb i thought the RAM would have to have been 3Gig (suppose it could have been but didn't think that was the case). Forgot all about the restore point
Thanks for the info
