Secure Exchange was created by Lindows
Hey Guys
I built a windows server 2003 server with IIS 2004 installed on. I want to install Exchange on, but im not certain. About to configure it. IS there a place where i can get help setting up my own email address, also im guessing that i will have to setup the server outside my my ipcop firewall and on a DMZ zone.

Im open to all insite. My goal to setup an successful server.

Hi there Lindows, sorry but i cannot help ya with the ipcop stuff (no Unix knowledge at all, planning on sorting this gap in my knowledge next year).

Anyhow, as for the Exchange question. Can you confirm, do you mean ISA 2004 ? Not fully understanding that as there isn't IIS 2004 but there is ISA :)

Ifl you publish your own E-Mail server then all you need to do is register the domain name that you require and you point the MX records to this new server.

The problem with firewalling the Exchange environment off is that if you place the exchange in a DMZ, you may struggle with the Active Directory connectivity through the firewall. It may be easier to just publish port 25 through the firewall to the backend exchange server in your environment. If your resources could push to it, you can install a Windows 2003 server in the DMZ to accept e-mails and then forward from this server in the DMZ back into your exchange server inside the local LAN. You can then setup AV/SPAM filtering on the DMZ before it gets into you inside network.

If you can confirm my assumptions and if you need anything further then please get back to me (need to get off now, being summond)

Cheers
