Mp3 player driver problem

When I connect the mp3 player to the PC via the USB I get the "Device failed to connect" sound. When I look through the Device Manager I notice that Windows doesn't recognise the device at all. It just says "Network Walkman" whereas on other computers it says "USB Mass Storage Device" and this is what it's supposed to say. So then I try to reinstall the driver I get the following error:

A service installation section in this INF is invalid.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Here are a few possibilities for starters:
1) Is the troublesome PC at the same service pack / patch level as the ones that work?
2) Is there a difference in the USB (e.g. USB 2 on one PC and 1 on the other)?
3) On the troublesome PC are there motherboard / hardware specific drivers and have they been installed, or are you relying on the generic Windows ones?

I know it is a silly question, but what version of windows are you running. If it is xp, the drivers should already be in the os. If it is an older version, you will need to install them. If you have xp, try looking at the device stats in the device manager window. You are looking for either a "picture" of the device, or a big yellow question mark. If you get the yellow question mark there is a problem with the drivers, and you may need to reload them. If not, I would suggest if you have the driver disk, you re-install the driver software onto the PC.
