Hey guys,

I'm runnning windows media center sp2 on one of my system. A friend of mines is running windows xp pro. I successfully remotely connected to each other systems using the windows remote desktop. But we realize that our information isn't encrypted as we do this. So we tried to use windows vpn setup wizard but unforuntately, Media center doesn't allow vpn setup.

Does anyone know how i can setup a vpn between both of our computer. We though about using tight VNC, but we heard that not encrypted as well.

I'm open to all suggestions.

The Remote Data Protocol (RDP) does have built-in 128-bit encryption and is OK to use over the internet. I however personally tunnel all my RDP sessions over SSH. But that's probably more to do with my paranoid personality than with any pressing need to do so.

You could also use UltraVNC which has an encryption plug-in. But that would be the same as using RDP - in fact, worse - as the encryption plugin is still in beta.

Replied by Lindows on topic Thank You!
Thank you for that inside information. I really appreciate it. I was so paranoid about sending data over the web. I'll give the program a shout. If i have any problems i'll let you know. One more question, can you recommend to me any useful home based firewall units. bascially a hardware firewall. Thanks.

For the low cost home market (sub £50), I'm partial to Linksys devices. Something like the Linksys BEFSX41.
