This will be the case if the machine is part of an Active Directory domain, where Group Policy has been configured to control these settings.

Whats weird tho is the GP on our domain has by default windows firewall turned off. So when I connect to the domain/LAN (My laptop is on a test bed NOT connected to LAN) it turns it off. When I use wireless to connect to lan the firewall shuts off...but then my test bed wont work properly.

So what I did is just shutdown the Firewall/ICS service on the laptop (=. You would think if the DOmain policy is turned off it would stay turned off even if not connected to the LAN. Oah well

I wonder if it's set to turn the firewall off only when connected to the domain?
