I have One laptop and 1 PC. Windows 98 in PC and Windows XP Home edition in my laptop. I have the internet connection in my PC not in my laptop. but i want to use my internet explorer in my laptop through Ethernet cable (CAT.5E UTP PATCH CORD) from my laptop to PC. Means that when i dial up the no. in my pc, after the connection authorization i can open my internet browser in my laptop. i have also installed Winproxy in both the computers, but nothing happened. Anyone knows how is it possible to make 1 internet connection and use several computers through that connection??

hi netpro,
what version of win98 do you have? you must have a win98se because Windows 98 Second Edition (Win 98 SE) includes Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) adapter and protocol. ICS is one way to connect your Windows LAN to the Internet and share an Internet connection with other users of the LAN.
you can use either a crossover cable (without a hub) or by using a hub where you can connect the other PCs through a straight-thru cables.

first of all sallmi, please use the "." symbol to avoid reading through your post
on a serious note, you have stumbled upon a age old problem. unless i am wrong, your mcafee firewall seems to be blocking outgoing traffic to your 1st pc that has the internet connection. if you know the IP address of your first pc, then open up your firewall, and configure it so that it has that IP address on the "allowed" list. this will let the two pcs to talk with each other. let us know how it goes.
