In windows server 2003, we have DNS, DHCP and WINS server installed. Clients are obtaining IP from DHCP server.
Please tell me, Clients Name Resolution works in which order.

As I understand it DNS is the basic name resolution system for an Active Directory network, but you can also integrate WINS with it by adding extra fields to the DNS entry for the client. So it would be DNS first then forwarding to WINS if DNS cannot resolve the name. For more info on this have a look at

You can also fudge things at the other end of the system to achieve a similar result. Do this by allowing your client to pick up its IP address automatically from the DHCP server but then manually configuring both the DNS and WINS server addresses
