I have a box that has windows 2000 and office 2000 SR-1 pro, I don't know for the life of me where the old tech put the disk, and while I was trying to do some offices updates for that machine it asked me for the CD, well I did have it so I cancelled the update, since then I cannot access Excel (and the update was or outlook, go figure) it says preparing installer please insert the disk... I heard that there was a patch for that but I never found, and I've looked am I just stupid? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

This is a pain isn't it? I think they just made you put the CD in to prove you had the CD and I aborted a few office updates too becasue the thing had been misplaced. Unfortunately I don't know of a patch for this either. One possible way forward might be to upgrade to a later version of Office as they will still work under Windows 2000. Or another is to have a good look around on your systems - I've seen more than one administrator dump the installation CD onto a server somewhere for their own convenience. I know it's a long shot but if you can find it you could burn it back to CD

I agree with the Bishop. It can be a real pain especially if you have not got access to the original discs. This KB article links to a Microsoft utility that fixes corrupt Windows Installer information. Be careful to point the utililty at the information related to the failed update and NOT your Office 2000 installation, otherwise it could zap your whole Office 2000 installation.
