but every time one of my kids updates their i-pods,with our XP when they safely remove hardware ,they delete the wireless usb device..I have to restore the system to retrieve it...anyone think of a better way cheers rickardo

It could be that they're mistakenly clicking to disable the wireless USB device instead of the IPOD. Anyway you can avoid the need to have to use the Safe Removal icon by changing a setting in Windows XP device manager. Under disk drives, select the IPOD and under policies you can select "optimize for quick removal". This disables write-caching for the IPOD, and eliminates the need for using the Safe Removal icon for the IPOD. You can simply unplug it as soon as you've completed any operations.
