Evil Windows Blue Screen was created by Lindows
Hey Guys,
Windows got me again. It was a sunny afternoon, and i'm carelessly loading windows xp home, when a evil blue screen pops up after 3 seconds into loading. It seems it's error 602674, something to do with a unreadable sector i believe on the harddrive. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this. i can boot into safe mode, but i can't restore the system using the restore option. i went to command prompt and typed "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe\ when i press enter it tell me to tryagain.
and help will be appreciated

Hey Lindows,
You have a number of different options, However is it possible to have the STOP CODE from the BSoD? maybe there is an MS article on it.
If it is a problem with windows there are a number of utilities in the recovery console you can use to repair and rebuild your system. To get into the recovery console, simply boot of the XP Disk, and at your first prompt, hit 'R' to enter into recovery console. If you have an administrator password, it will need to be entered.
A list of all the commands:
www.microsoft.com/resources/documentatio...ry_console_cmds.mspx
if windows is loading a little bit (you can see the xp loading screen for a second or 2) you can check the other sectors on your HDD in recovery console with the chkdsk cmd. use chkdsk /r and it will automatically repair damaged sectors.
If you can get into safemode, you can go to start->run then type 'msconfig' under the general tab choose selective startup, then look at your startup items and services. I would look more towards the services, there is also a checkbox near the bottom that says 'hide all microsoft services' check that and see what else is loading up on your system.
Another option to explore is a repair install, this mostly fixes registry problems and files in the C:\windows Directory, however it could fix some boot problems. be aware that you will need to reinstall drivers and service packs after the repair. it does not repair harddisk problems.
All that said and done, if you still cannot boot into windows, i would go back into safemode backup your data and reinstall.
Hope this is of some help to you Lindows, let me know how it goes.

Another option to obtain the stop messages is to visit our download section
www.firewall.cx/download-s06-dpm.php
and grab the Win2000 stop message file as they are the same with Windows XP stop messages.
Cheers,

If you've got an unreadable sector which is affecting your boot-up sequence, you may have to boot up using WinPE/BartPE and run chkdsk.
