Solaris 10 - RAID 0

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience configuring a RAID over two hard disks? The setup I am trying to go for is disk striping over two 4.2GB hard drives on an Ultra Sparc 30. My ideal configuration is a 7GB slice for root and the rest for swap space.

I have been using the metadb and metainit commands to configure it but the problem I am running into is that one of the hard drives already has the root partition and swap space on it (and the other hd is not being used) so I can't configure RAID on a mounted drive. I have no idea if or how I can umount a root drive and I never had the option in installation to format or partition my hard drives. Is there any possible way for me to umount the root drive and create this RAID before installing the OS?

Anyone have any ideas? For the record I don't care about losing the data on the root drive.

Had an answer from the Sun forums which I will share here to save anyone's time in responding to this question.

Disk striping can't be done on a root filesystem, swap, /usr, /export/home, etc. However, you can have a RAID-0 on a different slice that is still on the same physical hard drive of the root filesystem.

So at the moment I re-partitioned my drives so I have the root file system on one along with /opt, /var and /export/home. On my other drive is /usr. So basically I can't use RAID-0 on either of these disks because they have these file systems mounted on them and taking up pretty much all the space. If I had a third drive I would probably try it but as it stands right now I barely have enough free space left to stripe my drives so I am going to leave it.

Anyone else have experience with disk striping?
