Linux and exchange

At work here we have exchnage server. We changed our company name a while also. Our domain was old.com well now we use a different domain new-domain.com. Well in our exchange accounts we still have our old smtp just in case someone send us a email from our old account. I have e-mail account from my web site its a linux based. I cannot e-mail my current e-mail billy.bublitz@new-domain.com but i can e-mail my old account bbublitz@old.com both domain reside on the same server.

I get this error message when send FROM the exchange e-mail to my linux e-mail

Would there be a problem with the new domain talking ot linux based e-mail servers because of the - we have in our domain name? Im stumped

hmm.. the only clear fact is that exchange server rejects the incoming message for some reason.

since both domains are on the same exchange server and the one works while the other not, possibly the exchange server rejects the sender (linux smtp) for that domain based on some different policy that applies for your new domain. I have never used exchange mailserver, but if it has different configuration or filtering rules for each domain that could make sense.

Of course if your new domain's email works from most other servers, it is also reasonable to assume that the specific host's identiy (hosting your linux mailserver) is rejected for a reason by the policy of exchange for that domain. An example of such case could be the lack of PTR in-addr dns record for it's address , some black list used for filtering that somehow contains it's IP or domain address, a wrongly defined SPF record, or (though very unlike) a different hostname mentioned in the mail server's greeting than the one in your sending email.

Perhaps if you provided more information about exchange's domain-specific configuration someone with experience in exchange could track the mistake. Also you can check for possible misconfiguration of the dns servers at www.dnsstuff.com/

I used dns stuff web site to test the domain came back fine. I can send e-mail internally just fine or out going. Just cant send to linux from the new domain or i cant from my linux to new domain. I read a article where people were having trouble with linux servers. If the virtual SMTP server isnt from the same domain they are sending the mail exchange changes the domain so the e-mail can be recieved. THey called it e-mail spoofing and linux guards aginst it cause lot of spam does that. The virtual SMTP were part of our internal domain old.local so i made some host records in DNS table and had servers join new-domain.com instead still didnt work. So dont know what to try next.

Heres the article explaining it one of the resolutions was to change virtual smtp servers to new-domain.com instead of what it was our internal domain old.local. Well that didnt work hehe

ah sorry, before I had read your first post in a rush and mistakenly understood that only the opposite occured, that you could not send email from your linux box to the exchange. So it is the linux server that rejects the email in your quote.

Still, now you said there is a problem both sending to and receiving between the two servers? And what is the error message that you get when trying to send from linux to the exchange? Also, did you try testing with an other linux server that is surelly properly configured (ie from a free account at www.linuxmail.org )?

PS. the "-" character at the domain should not pose a problem in any case.

Yup it happens BOTH ways unless from linux you e-mail our old account that are still up bbublitz@olddomain.com. As far as the message you get from linux its about the same but give you a lot less info back.

Havent tried another linux e-mail ill try that
