Linux router / gateway was created by Demon
Hi,

in our company we're getting a highspeed cable connection and we want to share this internet connection with approximately 8 workstations.

However my boss has come up with some limitations regarding the users.

- From 8.00 to 12.00 hour he wants to limit websurfing to 5 selected websites.
- We have a break from 12.00 to 13.00 hour and then we're allowed to surf freely.
- Limited websurfing has to be applied again from 13.00 till 17.00 hour.
- Email can used all day.

I want to place a Linux (RedHat) router between the cablemodem and the rest of the network. Does anyone know of a software package which can help me in applying the rules listed above?

Thanx in advance!

After a good tip from someone I have been able to configure the box with iptables and crontab.

Demon,

Unfortunately your post fell during the migration to our new interface so no one could really reply to your question.

I was actually planning to answer you as soon as we completed the migration, but it seems like you already found the solution :)

I'd also suggest that you take a look at the Squid proxy server which will help you control the sites your users visit. Squid is an excellent proxy server and by far one of the most popular.

There are also some nice plugins for it, like Sarg, which will analyse the squid access logs and produce some nice reports to help you see what sites everyone is visiting, how much data has been downloaded and much more.

Cheers,

Chris Partsenidis.
