fglrx+linux+beryl= heart ache. Maybe it was just my personal experience but, I found it much easier to set up a "dream desktop" with nvidia. But this is not to discourage you to aciebe beryl bliss with ati, let us have a more detailed description and also a look at your xorg.conf
