Hello,

Mikrotik RouterOS is used extensively for routing at the Athens Metropolitan Wireless Network , a free wireless metropolitan-area sized community here in Greece.

It is a very powerful commercial solution based on Linux. Technically it does not provide anything that can not be done by using directly GNU/Linux, however it has some other advantages like a compact central interface that controls all of it's features nicely, a less chaotic development cycle and comprehensive documentation. Likewise it has some disadvantages, like not allowing you to install some of the thousands of free projects that are available for Linux anyway, or tweak it's internals.

Non-the-less, it's interface shows some impresive innovations and I wish something similar existed as OpenSource (actually, if I recall correctly, RouterOS started as an opensource project and then turned into commercial).

I'm not sure about it's complete feature-list. Being a customized Linux distribution it's features could actually be limitless, however because of the way it is developed, they depend on what pieces of free software Mikrotik company has ported and tested sufficiently to guarantee it's flawless use by providing them. I believe this list sums about all of it's features however.
