Installing modem on Redhat AS4

HI!

i have a Intel ambient MD5628 modem which i have to use in Linux redhat AS4.Now what i wana know is how to install driver for this modem ,can someone give step by step process(if i have tar.gz driver file) ?and how will i know tht a particular modem is being installed successfully in linux?And can someone point out the websites containing linux drivers for particular hardware which linux cant detect on its own.
