Modem trouble ! Please help was created by sahirh
Ok, so I just put up a box with RH9 today.. and guess what I discovered.. I've got a frigging winmodem in it !
No problem, I sorted this out once before long ago.. so I just hop across to Linuxant.com to get the winmodem driver they so sweetly used to give out to the community.
NOW I discover, they're charging $15 (more than the modem lol) for the full version of the driver.. I can download an evaluation that lets me surf at a blistering 14.4kbps lol
Does anyone know where I could get a free driver ? Here are the modem details :
[code:1]
PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ:
VENDOR ID : 14F1
DEVICE ID : 2F00
SUBVENDOR ID : 14F1
SUBDEVICE ID : 2004
REVISION ID : 01
DEDUCED INFORMATION:
VENDOR NAME : CONEXANT
DEVICE NAME : HSF CHURCHILL DATA/FAX
SUBVENDOR NAME : ACTIONTEC
MODEM TYPE : HSF
[/code:1]
As you can see its HSF, using a Conexant chipset.
Oh and err.. if anyone just so happens to have the retail driver could you PM me.. I just wanna know how well it works
Thanks a bunch,

Now that's pathetic.
I'll keep my eyes out for it. I've completed a few searches with no luck, most of them seem to point to linuxant.com

Sahir,
Check the following url: archie.is.co.za/ftpsearch/
Its a FTP search engine.
I search for 'HSF ' which revealed quite a few listings. One of them could perhaps work for your modem.
It seems like the key word(s) to use when searching are "HSF 2F00".
Let me know if you find anything that works for you.

manip - I already had those links, but thanks
Chris - I'm hitting the search engine with different queries.. no luck so far though.
Its starting to get really annoying, I've had to temporarily dual boot the machine with XP so that I can surf. I mean sure you can check your damn email at 14.4, but precious else. I'm sure lots of other people have had this problem, in fact I've seen a couple of drivers for Pentium platforms at sourceforge... however I'm a die hard AMD boy
So now the options are :
a. Pay Linuxant
b. Buy a new modem (cheaper than a !)
c. Hit IRC and beg
So.. which do you think I'm gonna be doing ?
Just btw, Shrike (RH9) is really a step up, everyone knows that RH8 was a letdown, but they've really taken it to the next level with RH9... its the perfect O/S for those switching from windows to linux.. its as easy (easier) to use than windows, better looking, more powerful, and more stable.
Plus its got far more stuff out of the box than mandrake, and more support.
Wish me luck for that #*$&*#$ modem !
